Alton sweeps McCluer North – The Redbirds scored 43 runs and rapped out 39 hits in a sweep of the Stars, winning 23-0 and 20-1 in a pair of five-inning games at Alton High in Godfrey. Alton is 13-5. North is 4-8.

The Redbirds slapped the Stars with 11 runs in the first inning of the opener before adding six runs in both the third and fourth innings. Rob Taul had three hits, including two doubles, and five RBI for Alton, which got two hits and three RBI from Noah Rathgeb, and two hits and two RBI from both Steven Nguyen and Aaron Bonnell. Derrick Allen drove in three runs, Jacob Kanallakan had two RBI, and Mike Hampton and Steven Pattan each had two hits.

Jacob St. Peters, the first of four Alton pitchers, worked two innings for the win to push his record to 4-0. Gary Volz (6-1) picked up the second win for the Redbirds.

In game two, Kanallakan had four hits, including a double and triple, and three RBI, Rathgeb had three hits and three RBI, Bonnell had three doubles, while Seth Boschert and Taul each added two hits for the Redbirds. Hampton had two hits and drove in two runs, joining Taul and Pattan with two RBI. Alton led 6-1 before erupting for 14 runs in the fourth inning.
