The first defeat of the girls basketball season for the Civic Memorial Eagles would not be followed by a second Tuesday night in Bethalto.

The Eagles pushed their record to 17-1 by beating the McCluer North Stars 57-38 in a nonconference game at CM. North, which lost to the Eagles 65-52 on Dec. 29 at the Jersey Tourney, drops to 9-7.

Saturday’s 51-48 loss at Highland cost CM the No. 1 ranking it held for one week in the Associated Press Class 3A state poll. The Eagles are ranked No. 5 in the latest poll released Tuesday.

CM’s Allie Troeckler overcame a 4-for-14 shooting night from the field by making 14 of 19 free throws and finishing with 22 points, 13 rebounds, four blocked shots and three steals. Anna Hall had nine points and 13 rebounds, while Kaylee Eaton and Kourtland Tyus both matched Hall with nine points, and Alaira Tyus added eight points for the Eagles.
