MNVB Gets Revenge VS. Hazelwood West

The Varsity girls volleyball team lost 8-25, 18-25 at Hazelwood West on September 10. New month, new team. Yesterday, the new, focused, older and improved team defeated the Cats, 25-21 and 25-22 to move into a tie for second place in the Suburban XII North Division with a final match at first place Hazelwood Central on October 13 still to play.

It took a total team effort and inspirational speech from Coach Lapinski (he made me put this in) to defeat Hazelwood West. Middles Meoni Jones (senior) and Eriyana Simmons (junior), hitting and blocking everything within reach, and junior outside hitters Ymahni Jones and Jazminne Pinkston did the same on the outside. Seniors setters Ayanah "Smiley" Dixon and Ashley Smith kept the West blockers out of sink, spreading the ball all over the court. Senior, defensive specialist, Angela Griswold had her serve working and did an excellent job passing along with Freshman Libero, Brianna Camper while Sophmore outside hitter, Karin Hounshell helped in everyway she could, whether it was blocking, setting or hitting. The Stars next matches are in the Principia tournament this Saturday versus Barat Academy, Wright City and Principia.
